Protecting Youth Through Legislation and Community Action

Following the loss of her son Wayne (Way) Faris, Jr. to a drunk driver in 1989, Priscilla Lord volunteered with MADD® (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and served as a speaker about the impact of drunk driving accidents. She also played a key role in the development of social host and dramshop legislation aimed at deterring drunk driving and preventing similar accidents and loss of life. As a member of Minnesota Join Together, a project funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Priscilla led the committee that drafted legislation that allows for civil liability against adults who serve alcohol to minors. The bill passed both the Minnesota House and Senate and was signed into law in May 2000.

Managing Partner Priscilla Lord has been a champion for the University of Minnesota Women's Athletic Department. Priscilla spent many years fiercely lobbying for University of Minnesota women's athletics through her service on the University of Minnesota Athletic Advisory Committee from 2002-2014. At Lord + Heinlein, we are proud fans of the Gopher Women's Basketball team and the Minnesota Lynx!

To honor our founder's commitment to standing up for those in need, a memorial fund has been set up in his name through Minnesota Legal Aid. Through the Judge Miles Lord Memorial Fund for Legal Aid, we carry forward the legacy of "The People's Judge."
